INFORMATION ON THE KL MONORAIL

With a total of 11 fully elevated stations, each between 600 - 1,000 metres apart, the KL Monorail is currently capable of handling up to a maximum 5,000 passengers per hour per direction (PPHPD), operating at 3 minutes headway with 12 numbers of 2-car trains.

Travelling time along the 8.6km route from Titiwangsa station to the KL Sentral station is approximately 19 minutes.

Is the KL Monorail safe?

Yes, to our knowledge there has never been a passenger fatality in the history of the monorail technology that we are adopting. The design and nature of the monorail system makes it very difficult for trespassers to access the guideway and power rails. The KL Monorail operation is semi-automatic with full fail-safe, train protection. Its vehicle are also designed to be highly resistant to fire, toxic fumes and gases.

What happens if there is a power failure?
Back-up power will be available which will independently enable train to reach the next station.
It was mentioned that the trains/vehicles to be used are Made-in-Malaysia. Is this true?
Yes. The supplier of the trains for the KL Monorail system is Monorail Malaysia Technology, a subsidiary of MTrans Holdings as well.

What is the passenger capacity of the trains?
Depending on the vehicle/car combination. The KL Monorail system utilises a 2-car train during its initial operations. A 2-car train may occupy 158 passengers at any one time on a "Regular" operation. Nevertheless, on "Full" and "Crush" operation, the capacity may be increased to 214 and 268 respectively.

Are the trains be driven by a manual driver or otherwise?
Yes. All trains are be operated by a driver positioned at the head of the train for passenger comfort and assurance. Nevertheless, the operation of these trains are monitored at each individual station and a Control Centre equipped with full fail-safe train technology system.

Are there any environmental impact on the monorail system?
The monorail system is more environmentally friendly than other railway or light rail transit system, having a low visual impact, a narrow guideway structure, stations of pleasing appearance, rubber-tyre vehicles with low noise and vibration levels.

What is the noise factor of monorail?
Straddle type monorail systems are inherently quiet therefore it is noise free.
Were trees removed in the construction process?
Where it is unavoidable, the trees were removed and relocated to areas specified by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for transplanting.
